The Brisbane R&B/soul five-piece are readying themselves for a return to action after a quiet 2017 so far.

Following a busy 2016, Brisbane R&B/soul group CKNU have had a relatively quiet year so far, but they're looking to change that with a return to action preceded by warm'n'fuzzy new single Plus One.

Boasting tinges of reggae and honeyed harmonies aplenty, the feelgood tune cruises along with an easy, welcoming groove and smooth surface that evoke sunny, laid-back afternoons and evenings best spent somewhere near a beach, with people who matter (or in this case, a special person in particular).

The band's restrained year so far has been well-earned, given the busy period they've enjoyed over the last few, including the release of their EP Louder in 2016, which saw them embark on an extensive regional tour across Queensland, as well as being invited to perform at Canadian Music Week in Toronto — a first for a band of Torres Strait artists.

They've also got a stack of festival credits to their name, having performed at Woodford Folk Festival in 2014, Island Vibe and Pacific Sounds in 2015, and last year's Yarrabilba Festival. They've also rubbed shoulders with A Tribe Called Red, Digging Roots, JSqze, Mark Lowndes, Megan Washington, Sahara Beck, Chris Tamyo and Yarwah, among others.

CKNU will be setting off for a tour in support of the single, with special guest Sametime, in October and November, playing Maroochydore, Byron Bay and Brisbane over the three-date run. TIckets are available through the band's website.

Plus One will be released this Friday, 22 September.
