More West Thebarton More West Thebarton

With their double a-side vinyl due out next month, Adelaide outfit West Thebarton Brothel Party have dropped the second single from the new record, Dolewave, which we are chuffed to be premiering today right here at theMusic.com.au.

The new track is intended by the band to be a send-up of society's tendency to apply labels to different genres of music.

"I feel like the term ‘dolewave’ is a reductive one that society or critics think is a 'cool, groovy' compliment, and tends to be used to identify a whole sound and approach to music," vocalist and guitarist Ray Dalfsen said of the song.

"Some might see being an artist on the dole as a romantic lifestyle choice. I've lived on the dole before, and it's not glamorous, but some people on the outside tend to think that it’s really romantic, carefree and that all artists on the dole do is party all the time, drink all the time and do whatever they want without consequence.

"This song comes from being frustrated by that lifestyle, and from being uncomfortable with a label that attempts to lump the diversity of all the bands living like that into one ‘scene'."

Coming off the back of a number of huge appearances this year such as Groovin' The Moo and Adelaide's A Day Of Clarity festival, WTBP are set to hit the road in support of the vinyl due out on Friday, 2 September through Clarity Records

The gang will take to the stage for shows in Wollongong, Adelaide, Melbourne, Newstead and Adelaide, as well as at Brisbane's BIGSOUND and Sydney's King Street Crawl festival.
