EXCLUSIVE: Emmylou Harris & Rodney Crowell - The Traveling Kind

The legendary Emmylou Harris and long-time friend and occasional collaborator Rodney Crowell are mere weeks away from commencing their inaugural joint tour of Australia, but ahead of their southern sojourn comes their eagerly awaited new studio full-length, The Traveling Kind, premiering exclusively on theMusic.com.au today!

The Traveling Kind marks the pair's second album of duets together, following 2013's acclaimed Old Yellow Moon, and finds the veteran performers in as vital a form as they've arguably ever been. Due out on 8 May via Nonesuch Records, The Traveling Kind packs nine tracks written by Crowell and/or Harris, six of which are completely new, with a couple of straight covers — Lucinda Williams' I Just Wanted To See You So Bad and Amy Allison's Her Hair Was Red — mixed in for good measure.

One can expect the accolades to flow fast and heavy for the new full-length once it's out in the world, given the pedigree from which it's come; Old Yellow Moon picked up Best Americana Album at the 56th Grammy Awards, helping to make Harris a 13-time Grammy recipient, while Crowell also has multiple awards to his name, not to mention membership in the Songwriters Hall of Fame and an ASCAP Lifetime Achievement Award.

If you like what you hear above, you won't have too long to wait until you can enjoy Crowell and Harris' chemistry in the flesh — they kick off their first-ever Australian tour on Sunday, 21 June, at Perth's Concert Hall, and go on to perform additional shows in Canberra, Melbourne, Sydney and Wollongong on the way to their final Aussie appearance at Gold Coast's Jupiters Theatre on Wednesday, 1 July. They'll be joined for all shows by local country troubadour Harmony James.
