Live Review: Pond, Body Type

"It's a spaced-out, driving attack on humanity's hopelessness but frontman Nick Allbrook makes it all seem like fun."

More Pond More Pond

Body Type warmed everyone up at the Enmore with their tight indie pop rock.

With introspective lyrics sung in smooth dreamy vocals, the band hit on something really nice in Ludlow and Silver and managed to get the crowd swaying and dancing as they liked, leaving to a large applause.

Pond hit the stage next and opened up with 30000 Megatons. It's a spaced-out, driving attack on humanity's hopelessness but frontman Nick Allbrook makes it all seem like fun, embracing the absurd. Sporting glitter on his cheeks and a smile on his lips Allbrook was his usual eclectic self, with strange moves and a voice reminiscent of David Bowie's 'Ziggy' persona.

Their latest album The Weather is perhaps the most poignant of their career, produced by Tame Impala's very own Kevin Parker. However, the introspective and often comedic lyrical themes do not distract from the psychedelic musical landscape, which is designed to send you off to space. And they bring an extra barrel of gunpowder for the live shows.

Sweep Me Off My Feet was up next followed by Zen Automaton, which is a song "about humans". Allbrook pulled out the flute for this number and pointed it like a wand at the audience. A new song Fire In The Water, dedicated to Nick's brother, went down like honey in a fast groove and the crowd got the well and truly moving by this stage. There was plenty of crowd surfing and shoulder riding to be had for the punters as long as they could stay on their feet in the whirlpool of people. Paint Me Silver was a crowd pleaser from the new record with an absolutely classic Pond sound, followed by a long jam of Edge Of The World. Giant Tortoise closed the set taking the mosh pit to new heights with its driving chords and earworm riffs.

After a good cheer and footstomp the crowd got a well-deserved encore as the band closed with Man It Feels Like Space Again leaving a very sweaty and slightly stunned audience.
