Live Review: Drake, 2 Chainz, P Reign

"Damn it makes us all feel like we achieved something fucking epic."

More Drake More Drake

The majority of tonight’s energetic crowd doesn’t seem to care that support act P Reign is little more than a hype-man.

Main support 2 Chainz isn’t much better. He can rap and he does a good job of keeping (most of) Sydney enthused but when he rhymes about turning a woman’s ass into a frisbee, the want for Drizzy is real!

Drake emerges clad in a purple Toronto Raptors jacket, black tee, baggy jeans and Timberlands. So bae. He rattles through a host of his tracks and collaborations (Headlines, Best I Ever Had, Crew Love, Tuesday to name a few), his flow and singing on-point, as is his talented band and DJ.

Worst Behavior (“Motherfucker never loved us, remember?”) leads into a short break. Time for a wardrobe change! Drake returns wearing a Wallabies jersey - ‘STRAYA!

Sensitive Drizzy shines on Nothing Was The Same track Come Thru, which gets a seductive makeover, on a turned-down version of Find Your Love, and on Take Care, which gets one of the biggest crowd participations of the night.

Rappers don’t usually fly, do they? In private planes, yes, but not standing on awkward-looking harness things that transport them across arenas. Drake floats over the crowd and is gently planted down on a small stage a little off-centre to deliver Hold On, We’re Going Home. It drags on a tad but when he changes the words to “Fuck it, I’m not going home,” Sydney pride beams out of us.

Started From The Bottom is the best way – and only way – to end things tonight and damn it makes us all feel like we achieved something fucking epic.

Drake’s super appreciative of us and you get the feeling he ain’t gonna forget his first Aussie show in a heartbeat. Neither are we. Drake, don’t go home.
