Cheery indie pop at its finest

More San Cisco More San Cisco

Last night, Adelaide saw Western Australia’s indie pop four-piece San Cisco rock up to Fowler’s Live in the name of Run, the first single from their upcoming second album.

First to hit the stage was the soulful Montaigne, who sparked much emotion in the crowd as all eyes focused on her. It was hard to look anywhere else while this lovely artist belted out tunes, and it was safe to say much of the audience probably left with a crush on her.

By the time next act Gunns managed to grace the stage, the venue was beginning to fill up substantially for quite early in the night. The Perth five-piece played both new and old songs from their repertoire. They managed to pull off a chilled and relaxed vibe, despite being a little sloppy at times. They are a relatively new band to the big stages though, and they presented themselves well, doing a good job with communicating with the crowd. The crowd became more involved as the set went on, making for a strong last track for the band in Leaving Home.

With a full venue, the 20-minute wait for San Cisco began to heat up – literally! With a group of rowdy boys attempting to barge their way to the front of the stage, the surrounding crowd became annoyed and irritated. However, as soon as San Cisco jumped on stage the crowd forgot their mutual contempt and made peace through the music. As usual the audience went wild for Scarlett Stevens’ charm and Jordi Davieson’s smooth voice. As they pumped out a new song from their upcoming album to commence the set, the crowd was smiling and bopping away with joy. The yellow and red tones of the lighting complemented the warm, summery vibes of the band. As San Cisco with favourites such as Golden Revolver, Stella, Reckless and Beach, the crowd responded by singing along to every line and smiling all ‘round.

Davieson communicated well with the crowd and the relationship maintained between the band and their fans has improved exceptionally since their first show in Adelaide a couple of years back. Due to increased popularity and the band churning out numerous shows, it’s no surprise that the four-piece has come so far. With the crowd buzzing, the band played Awkward and instructed the girls of the audience to sing along to the girl parts and the boys to sing along with the boy parts – a fun and interesting aspect of the show to say the least!

The band finished with new single Run, which left the crowd cheering and begging for more. With no choice but to return and satisfy the crowd’s desires, San Cisco threw themselves back onto the stage and encored with Fred Astaire. The energy of the band and the crowd combined was unbelievably high and everybody seemed to be getting along, dancing and smiling; no sign of violent and intense moshing here.

After another incredible set, everyone left in a fantastic mood and will no doubt return next time San Cisco decide to come back to the streets of Adelaide.
