More Broods More Broods

Winter may have kicked back in with a vengeance in Sydney, but it didn’t stop punters from filling the Oxford Art Factory for a trio of artists on the up and up.

There was enough variety to show that Broods have massive talent and will surely take their opportunities and join Lorde in world domination.

East has recently burst into our ears with the polished and quirky single/EP, Old Age. The ironically named song from this 16 year old marvel is just the beginning of a potentially glittering musical career. Her stage presence and strong vocals belie her age as East and her band succinctly played through her recently released EP.

Jarryd James (aka Klapper) hit the stage next. Whilst his appearance was dowdy, his voice was anything but. James’ beautifully rich vocals filled the space around us and it was hard not to be enthralled. The addition of Matt Corby on keyboard had the crowd abuzz, but the real star was James and his skilful song-writing and singing in his short but strong set.

In nine short months Broods have catapulted out of Auckland and into the world music scene with their self-titled debut EP. Two sold-out shows are a testament to their popularity following their Splendour In The Grass debut.

Georgia and Caleb Nott take to the stage with the full room eagerly receiving them. Georgia moves around the stage smoothly, seducing the crowd with her luscious vocals and apparent confidence of a seasoned front-women whilst Caleb subtlety grooves behind the keyboard.

The texture of deep and strong electronic sound along with Georgia’s soft falsetto offset each other beautifully and the cover of Empire Of The Sun’s We Are The People gave Georgia a chance to spread goosebumps around the room, and it wasn’t from the chilly night.

With a mix of tracks from their EP and upcoming album (out August 22), there was enough variety to show that Broods have massive talent and will surely take their opportunities and join Lorde in world domination.
