More Lily Allen More Lily Allen

With his steady build-up of followers Adelaide born, Melbourne based hip hop act Allday had some strong support in the front of the filling hall. That, and the fact the house lights stayed up, must have given him extra confidence as he showed no signs of being daunted by the occasion. With a strong set full of energy and passion he rapped his way over an undercurrent of the sort of dancing melodies that would appeal to those not normally into the genre.

Her sardonic wit was still there in the new songs and her on stage banter was as cheeky as ever with comments such as the fact her G-string had got twisted during a costume change.

It’s been over 4 years since Lily Allen last performed in Sydney, and that was at a time when she had stated she had no plans to even make another album. Now here again, and with a new album, it seemed to be a case of back to business for Allen.

Her sardonic wit was still there in the new songs and her on stage banter was as cheeky as ever with comments such as the fact her G-string had got twisted during a costume change. Despite her own unwavering enthusiasm it waned a little in the crowd during some of those, particularly during the smoother vibes of Close Your Eyes. For the most part though it was a party like atmosphere, almost fun-time karaoke at times, as Allen belted out the pumping Smile and the romping 22.

Of the new songs the rough warped sounds of URL Badman and the beautifully weighted Keane cover Somewhere Only We Know were highlights. Allen’s appeal is her ‘woman of the people’ demeanour and as Fuck You and Not Fair took on a jubilant sing-along tone it was clear that she and her fans are still on the same page.
