Album Review: Coldcut & On-U Sound - Outside The Echo Chamber

"It all seems a smidge more 'pop' than expected, but there's stacks going on."

By the decade's end, Matt Black and Jonathan More will celebrate 30 years of genre mashing as Coldcut while Adrian Sherwood's On-U Sound cake will have 40 candles.

It's surprising that a full collaboration hasn't emerged sooner. Roots Manuva's charcoaled vocals gleefully ride in on a tricycle to launch Vitals and Sherwood's love for swirling dub and reggae is given extra smoke by the legendary Lee "Scratch" Perry and Coldcut's estranged old pal Junior Reid (Divide And Rule). With all excursions clocking under four minutes, it all seems a smidge more 'pop' than expected, but there's stacks going on.
