"There's still plenty of fun to be had here, but it's balanced with plenty of moody melancholy."

More Cub Sport More Cub Sport

Brisbane's Cub Sport took their time releasing a debut album, but now we finally have This Is Our Vice, and it was certainly worth the wait.

The band have all but traded in their earlier tropical surf pop sound for something much more mature and sonically interesting. From Tim Nelson's brooding vocals on Only Friend to the hypnotic synths of I Can't Save You and catchy chorus of It Kills Me, there's a real depth to this record, undoubtedly the product of those extra years spent touring and refining their sound. There's still plenty of fun to be had here, but it's balanced with plenty of moody melancholy.
