"Rodeo, at its height, is a realisation of the sound Ye predicted in 808s."

More Travis Scott More Travis Scott

Kanye's 2008 808s & Heartbreak was maligned for its Auto-Tune and its feelings.

Listening back, it was prophetic — melody and raps; Drake, Minaj, Future, whoever else. Rodeo, at its height, is a realisation of the sound Ye predicted in 808s. It's instructive that Scott recruited Ye and prominent 808s contributor Kid Cudi for this record. 3500 is ethereal, punctuated by 2Chainz's throbbing delivery. Piss On Your Grave is gloriously manic. Flying High featuring Toro y Moi is a woozy genre-jumper. Don't get it twisted, though. This is no tribute, no mere echo. The future is here. And Mr Scott is at the helm.
