Album Review: Azealia Banks - Broke With Expensive Taste

There’s way too much here to love.

More Azealia Banks More Azealia Banks

However you feel about Banks’s online presence, all the Twitter beefs kind of fade to the background with this genre-bending gem which owes as much to early 2000s house music as it does The Blueprint.

Broke… isn’t perfect; encompassing two years of tracks the album’s way too long and wildly inconsistent in places – but the peaks far outweigh the troughs. For every weird-arse ‘what?’ moment like Nude Beach A Go Go there’s the incredible hard-hitting Heavy Metal And Reflective and Ice Princess, or pop masterpiece Soda – there’s way too much here to love.
