Working out what to see at Fringe is tricky. Do you listen to your mates? Do you listen to reviews? Do you listen to your gut? We can’t answer these quesions for you. But we can share what we won’t be missing at this year’s Fringe Festival (the biggest one yet)!

Performance: MKA: Richard II
Hot off the heels of 2013’s sell-out Fringe show Unsex Me, Mark Wilson is taking on William Shakespeare once again with Richard II. Designed by Amaya Vecellio (Unsex Me; Mein Kampf) and also performed by Olivia Monticciolo (Bell Shakespeare’s Phedre).
17 – 28 Sep, Northcote Town Hall, Studio 2

Live Art: Chinese Whispers
Rani Pramesti (participant in MTC’s Connect program) and her team deliver an immersive, installation-based performance work inspired by the experiences of Chinese-Indonesian women living in Melbourne. A voice through headphones will guide you through a maze, in which you’ll find the stories of these women.
23 – 28 Sep, Bluestone Church Arts Space 3

Performance:ANGRY SEXX
Directed by Bridget Balodis (Kids Killing Kids) and written by Rachel Perks, ANGRY SEXX is an urgent new theatre work that sees characters Cybelle and Catherine set out to reclaim the night. Part Nicki Minaj video, part female vengeance film this work explores the hot mess at the heart of contemporary feminism.

Comedy: Steen Raskopoulos: I’m Wearing Two Suits Because I Mean Business
Winner of the 2013 Best Newcomer at the Sydney Comedy Festival, fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe (where he was nominated for Best Newcomer) and having sold out at this year’s Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Steen Raskopoulos is on fire. He brings his one-man sketch comedy back to Fringe.
28 Sep – 4 Oct, Frunge Hub, Lithuanian Club

Performance: Bucket’s List 
Written by Sarah Collins (Nothing Extraordinary Ever Happens in Toowoomba. Ever; Choir Girl) Bucket’s List will be performed by Justin Kennedy and directed by Yvonne Virsik (Nothing Extraordinary Ever Happens in Toowoomba. Ever; I Love You Bro; Spring Awakening) with puppetry by Jem Nicholas and a live score by Rhys Auteri. Oh and there will be a life size bucket dream girl by Barking Spider Visual Theatre.
19 Sep – 4 Oct, Fringe Hub, North Melbourne Town Hall

Special Event: Righteous: Rights At The Round Table
Multicultural Arts Victoria and the MAV Youth Steering Committee brings a youth-driven forum where culturally diverse youth can express themselves, discuss ideas, stories and struggles, creative explore human rights issues, listen to speakers and participate in workshops in music, spoken word, theatre and visual arts (including hip hop and zine making). A perfect thing to do on a Saturday during the Festival.
28 Sep, Fringe Hub, North Melbourne Town Hall

Dance: Symphony Of Strange
Nominated for Best Dance at the 2013 Adelaide Fringe, Symphony Of Strange is performed to the sounds of a live orchestra of 50 non-musical instruments. With choreography inspired by Gaston Bachelard’s The Psychoanalysis Of Fire, it explores how the body responds to fire and temperature. Dancer Gareth Hart most recently worked with the London International Festival of Theatre.
30 Sep – 4 Oct, The Substation – Performance Space 2

Visual Art: The Art Of Silent Protest
A collective of Australian creatives respond to the question: “How do you protest without creating a disturbance?” Protests in our city are becoming increasingly common as the public makes a stand for social and ecological change – in this show, Kate Kingsmill and Anna Maria Drutzel examine the visual impact of the art of activism.
17 – 30 Sep, The Snug

Fringe Film: Digital Creatures
Back for its second year, Digital Creatures features free nightly screenings of Australia’s best emerging digital screen artists displaying their short films, animations and video art. Sip on a cold beer, share a plate of nibbles and kick back and watch the show.
18 Sep – 5 Oct, Little Creatures Dining Hall

Cabaret: The Ninth Wave
Jennifer Kingwell (ex-The Jane Austen Argument – multiple Fringe Award winners) will deliver Kate Bush’s album Hounds Of Love in a one-night-only concert with her band The Garland Thugs, backing singers including soul singer Chelsea Wilson and Plum Green.
