Felicity Groom (vocals and Microkorg) tells us about just what went into Rokwell & Groom’s debut single 'Impossible Alps'.

Impossible Alps is the first single off the Rokwell & Groom debut album New Parts, planned for release later this year. Rokwell & Groom is made up of Diger Rokwell and myself, Felicity Groom, and was a suggested collaboration for a Cut & Paste collabs show a couple of years back. We talked via email about putting some tunes together for the show and Diger sent me beats and I sent him melodies, and we worked like that for a while until we finally met mid-match in a game of Ultimate Frisbee one fine Friday afternoon.

Our first gig was not long after that and we had so much fun doing the one show that we continued the collaboration and further developed our sound and set. The release has a unique sound to it that combines both our influences, and this first single is a window into upcoming material. While having a specific sound, each song lives on its own particular island in the world that will be our debut album New Parts. This first single lives in a dream state and tells of those still moments where you look at your loved one and take them all in, every inch, every breadth and, in this case, relating them to a picture perfect landscape.

The single's clip is fitting to that theme, most of the background footage shot by me while flying over Broome in a small plane. That place is pretty perfect. Then we took that footage and projected it onto ourselves at Diger's house and had Dom Pearce edit it all together in one tidy little package.

The launch for all this will happen this Saturday 11 May at Mojos. You'll also be able to catch Rabbit Island, Mathas, Ylem and Rok Riley… and also the clip I just spoke of. That's a super pack of super people. The second single to come out soon is another little island in the world of Rokwell & Groom. There is no set release date for the album yet as we are making up our minds just how to release it… The second single should be on your doorsteps soon after this one. That one has a sadder tale… but I'll leave that story until next time.
