As the overall Editor now, his involvement has also been to drive the online output, including Australia's most comprehensive new music website, TheMusic.com.au.

Outside of this, Aarom DJs in the WAMi-nominated Cut & Paste Soundsystem, has lectured and coordinated units in Broadcast Journalism at Murdoch University, is a qualified high school teacher, has been hosting shows on RTRFM since 2002 (currently Train Wreck and Golden Apples Of The Sun), hosts web interviews for Cut & Paste and is generally just way too obsessed with two things: communicating and music (preferably both, with a beer in hand).

Bourby Webster

Bourby began life as a classical viola player. Her career has been a rare mix of music and business: She was a founder member of the UK-based electric female string quartet, Bond, signed to Universal Records. After leaving the group, she moved to Australia and followed a corporate career, rising to senior management and completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) at UWA.

She now runs North Street Music, a music management, promotion and marketing firm; and is a Partner of North Street Productions, a company dedicated to producing and managing large scale concerts and events.

North Street Productions also manages the Perth Symphony Orchestra. She is a sought-after presenter and lecturer. She lectures at WAAPA and regularly runs workshops for musicians on business skills in Australia and the UK. Bourby continues to advise on Business Development and Marketing at CEO level in the corporate world through North Street Consulting.

Whilst living the dream in London, Catherine attended Glastonbury Festival three years in a row, developing a keen love for indie guitar rock music. Eventually she decided to return to Sydney to rejoin APRA and became Deputy Director of Licensing Services.

Earlier this year, she was promoted to Deputy Director of Publisher Services. In this new role, Catherine hopes to move forward with music publishers to increase their profitability and assist publishers with potential business opportunities by contributing to innovative business models.

With roots in the tiny Indian Ocean nation of Seychelles, home to a unique culture that fuses Africa, Europe and Asia, Grace Barbé (pronounced Bar-bay) is a singer, songwriter and musician whose music, like her mixed heritage, reflects and celebrates the diverse influences of her Creole culture.

In 2007, Grace's career exploded on to the Australian music scene with the release of her debut single “Mon Arive”. The song achieved significant local and national airplay, reaching the number one spot on Triple J Unearthed Roots chart. The song is was nominated for WAM (Western Australian Music) 'Song of the Year' award 2008 in the world/folk category.

In her home state of Western Australia, Grace has attracted considerable attention and earned her a loyal following on the strength of her live shows. This has given her the opportunity to share the stage with artists such as Ben Lee, The Wailers, UB40, Ernest Ranglin, Bomba, The Black Seeds, Mad Professor, Ba Cissoko numerous local and international performers.

She has also performed at WA's prestigious festivals such as Perth International Festival, Fairbridge Festival, Southbound Festival, She has recently been invited to perform at the prestigious Woodford Folk Festival 2008, 09 Queenscliff, Bluesfest Festival 2010, 2011.

The role, jointly funded between industry (APRA|AMCOS) and government (Australia Council for the Arts), overseas the management and implementation of SOUNDS AUSTRALIA - the national export platform specifically developed for the contemporary Australian music industry's representation at key music markets, promoting Australian musical repertoire to the world at events such as MIDEM, SXSW, The Great Escape, CMJ Music Marathon, Music Matters, Americana, Folk Alliance International and Canadian Music Week.

AIR also publishes the Jagermeister independent music charts, presents the Jagermeister Independent Music Awards and has a widely read blog about Australian indie music.

Noah Shilkin

Noah Shilkin is a recording artist, songwriter/composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist, arranger and music supervisor. After 23 years working internationally Noah returned home to be with family – and his new studio “The Lollybox” in Margaret River, WA.

He has composed for the likes of Nike, Chevrolet, Calvin Klein, General Motors, Disney, Nelvana, ESPN, CBC, VTV, playwright Harold Pinter and the artist Robert Rauschenberg. Noah has worked with international recording artists ranging from Alanis Morissette to AC/DC and was keyboardist for legendary New Zealand cult band Mother Goose.

His song-writing catalogue boasts more than 300 songs and includes the Voodoo Opera "Under a Mardi Gras Moon."

A love of technology has put Noah at the forefront in the field of computers and music and he has consulted to Apple, Digidesign, Emu Systems and New England Digital. Industry affiliations include WAM, SOCAN, BMI, FACTOR, AES and Canada Arts Council where he has worked in many capacities ranging from song reviewer, panellist, guest speaker and educator. Logging over 3000 live performances around the world he continues to play to a loyal following just because it's fun and as he says, “That's where it all starts.”


Pat Pattison

Pat Pattison is a Professor at Berklee College of Music, where he teaches Lyric Writing and Poetry.

In addition to his four books, Songwriting Without Boundaries, Writing Better Lyrics, The Essential Guide to Lyric Form and Structure, and The Essential Guide to Rhyming, Pat has developed three online lyric writing courses, and one on poetry, available through Berklee's Online School. He has filmed a series of lectures and masterclasses, available through Songwork.com and has written over 50 articles for various magazines and blogs.

Pat continues to present songwriting clinics across the US, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. Several of his students have won Grammys, including John Mayer and Gillian Welch.

Pete Carroll

Pete Carroll has extensive experience with Major and Independent record labels in the UK and Australia.

He worked for Sony Music for over 10 years; during this time he brought a Western Australian music focus to the label and was instrumental in the signings of Jebediah, Ammonia and Yummy Fur to the Sony Music roster.

He co-founded Offworld sounds releasing Electronica, Dance and Hip Hop acts and littleBIGMAN records where he signed The Panics.

Carroll has also worked in media; managing Alternative radio station RTRFM and presenting weekly music segments on ABC Radio. In 2002 he co-produced Shaun Ryder's (Happy Mondays) solo album “Amateur night in the Big Top” for Offworld Sounds and helped Ryder re-launch his career in the UK.

He is chair of an Indigenous record label (Too Solid) and has recently co-produced records by two aboriginal acts; John Bennett and The Yabu Band. He currently manages The Panics, Tim & Jean, Georgia Fair and Karl Smith (Sodastream), and was inducted into the WAM Hall of Fame in 2011.


Phaedra Watts

Phaedra Watts spent her youth watching bands (and people) in her hometown of Fremantle, which offered a rich and fertile upbringing, installing many of her enduring beliefs and passions.

In her 20's, Phaedra moved to Nannup - the perfect place to grow her young family. Yet, instead of settling into the slow pace of country life, she found herself drawn into the organisation of the Nannup Music Club. She has been Artistic Director for the past four years and it appears her passion for music, culture and community were exactly what the festival needed.

Phaedra's position allows her to share her love of Music and the Arts. She is a strong supporter of Emerging and Indigenous performers, and is honoured to work with these artists in a contemporary context.

The Nannup Music festival is a much loved - music lovers – festival, which has grown to be a recognised and appreciated event on Australia's music calendar. The programming reflects the diversity and richness of Phaedra's own music tastes, and her respect for all artists working together in a warm, friendly and creative environment.

Phaedra is a firm believer in fostering and supporting promising creativity in order to see it grow.

Philip Mortlock

Philip Mortlock is Creative Manager with Alberts. In his role at Alberts Philip is involved in the creative services of all activities with artists, songwriters, publishing, recording and other music rights.

Philip is also on the board of AIR (Association Of Independent labels) and NFSA (National Film & Sound Archives as well as being a founding patron of THE AMP (Australian Music Prize).

Prior to working at Alberts Philip ran the indie label and publishing business' ORiGiN Music and prior to that was with Warner Music Australia for many years starting out designing record covers and ending up as Managing Director.

Philip Stevens ran a successful touring company called Jazz Dive Promotions, which promoted concerts in WA between 1990 and 1998. Jazz Dive represented many of Australia's finest acts including Paul Kelly, Weddings Parties Anything, Kate Ceberano as well as international touring blues and world music acts such as Screaming Jay Hawkins, Buddy Guy, Angelique Kidjo and the Bhundu Boys.

In 2002, Philip established Jarrah Records in New York and has been managing the label and overseeing all label duties since. Jarrah Records was the first artist owned independent label to debut at No.1 on ARIA charts.

Philip also currently manages The John Butler Trio, The Waifs & The Flairz.

Phoebe Corke

She books and promotes over 50 gigs a year, runs Gimme Shelter - an annual fundraiser for the homeless, and was the Festival Director of Earthdance WA.

Since moving to Fremantle in 2005 she has played the violin with a wide variety of performers including Shane Howard, Neil Murray, John Butler, Bomba, TinPan Orange, Carus, Saritah, Tijuana Cartel, Ganga Giri, Hussy Hicks, Loren and A French Butler Called Smith. She also works regularly as a recording session artist.


Rosalind Appleby

Rosalind Appleby graduated from the University of Western Australia with a Bachelor of Music Performance and has spent the past twelve years working as a music journalist. Her book Women of Note (Fremantle Press 2012) revealed startling discoveries about Australian women composers, completing the missing jigsaw pieces in Australia's music history.

She writes regular music reviews and feature articles covering a wide range of jazz, world and classical music critic for The West Australian newspaper and is the WA correspondent for the prestigious Opera magazine (London).

For several years she produced and broadcast the experimental radio program Difficult Listening for community radio. Rosalind has worked as a music critic in Europe and China, and has reviewed most festivals and orchestras around the country - from the 2006 State Opera of South Australia's production of Wagner's Ring cycle to the experimental Now Now festival in Sydney. She has contributed to a variety of national and international publications including London's Financial Times, the Australian, Scoop magazine, Music Forum journal, Resonate magazine and The Opera Critic.

Scott Adam has been working in the music business for more than 15 years as an artist manager, record label owner and lecturer. Prior to starting WA's first qualifications in music business at the Central Institute of Technology's Centre for Music Industry Training (CMIT), Scott headed up Qstik Records & Management, a business that worked to develop distribution, marketing and touring networks for WA artists. One such act was The Panda Band who toured to the USA three times and the UK twice, signed to Filter / Fontana and released two CD's across Australia and North America in the four years they worked with Qstik Management.

These days, Scott is training up-and-coming music agents, managers and administrators through the Certificate IV and Diploma courses run at the Leederville Campus of the Central Institute of Technology. He is currently developing a combination of classroom and workplace based training culminating in an internship program at the end of the Diploma and has been setting up various industry partnerships to benefit the employment and experience opportunities for his students.

During a 10 year tenure at EMI Records in London Tony gained invaluable inside knowledge while helping to promote the careers of artists including Radiohead, Coldplay & Robbie Williams.

Since leaving EMI he has achieved recognition as a Producer/Remixer, run a recording studio and now manages Perth electro band VCA. A co-organiser of the WA Music Managers Community and an early advocate of online/digital marketing he keenly embraces the ever changing musical landscape

Voltaire Twins are a Perth-based indie dance band fronted by twin brother and sister Tegan and Jaymes. After being Unearthed by Triple J in 2008, they went on to high profile supports with Ladytron, Maximo Park, Midnight Juggernauts and Art vs Science, as well as festival slots at Laneway Festival, Parklife, Groovin the Moo, Summadayze and Good Vibrations.

In October 2010 the band travelled to New York, where they performed at the CMJ Music Marathon. In March 2012 they travelled to the USA and Canada to perform at SXSW and Canadian Music Week.
