Single Focus: Planet Love Sound - My Shadow

What's the song about?
The song is about duality. We have grown up in a world where we are taught of so many dualities. Light and shade, black and white, yin and yang, good and bad. The Shadow represents what's not said, the darker side of human expression.

Is this track from a forthcoming/existing release?
It's the second single from our debut EP, Part 1, which we released earlier this year on 12-inch vinyl.

How long did it take to write/record?
Our singer came up with the basis for the whole song during Autumn 2010 in Berlin. The street parade noises in the track were recorded outside the window of our apartment - after a bit of chopping, stretching and editing it fit perfectly with the vibe of the track! At that point, we were putting together our music over long periods of time.

Was anything in particular inspiring you
during the making?
The dance footage we took in the music video was super inspiring. It was actually just ourselves and a bunch of friends celebrating Tina's birthday in Berlin.

What's your favourite part of the song?
I love the contrast of the dry and dark vocals with the super electronic digitally distorted synth, layered with acoustic drums. And the chorus still gets me everytime.

Do you play it differently live?
We do. It's probably our most challenging song to play live. Firstly, we're a four piece and there are quite a few layers in the recording which have proved quite challenging to perform in a live setting.
