How did you get together?

Tina Stefanou, vocals: PLS started off as a recording project with Joe and myself. When Oscar got wind of this (he and Joe were playing in another band at the time) he took a real interest in the process that we were going through creatively and philosophically. We spent days writing, recording, eating big feasts for lunch and just hanging out.

Have you recorded anything or do you prefer to tool around in your bedroom?

Our recording process has been an ever-evolving journey from the day we began. From humble abodes in Ivanhoe, Prahran, Neukölln and Kreuzberg, these spaces allowed for both experimentation and some surprising results. Hallways, kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms and any gear we could muster up (a classic one is the shaker in My Shadow – nuts in a jar).

Can you sum up your band's sound in four words?

Psychedelic, tribal, dark, pop.

If you could support any band in the world, who would it be and why?

It's hard to go past Radiohead. Most bands would probably agree. They just really nail it on so many levels, always. We're inspired by their bravery to push the boundaries of their own sound and commitment to experimentation and somehow they manage to do this all within the realm – by defining and challenging – of the mainstream.

If a higher power smites your house and you can only save one record from the fire, what would it be?

Fever Ray and Nana Mouskouri – have you heard their collaboration?

Do you have a lucky item of clothing you wear for gigs and what is it?

Joe has his carnelian cancer stone, Oscar usually borrows my purple shirt (he doesn't know it's purple as he is colour blind) and I like to keep it simple and live dangerously.

If you invited someone awesome round for dinner what would you cook?

Entree of Jung, main of Peter Singer, dessert of Madonna. (All this accompanied by a chilli-infested, garlic-infused, lemon zest-encrusted vegan feast that has converted many a meat eater.)

What's your favourite place to drink in Melbourne?

I'm not a big drinker but when I do I love to make my own rum and chilli cocktails at home in Carlton North.
