King Of The North

The "You can go to hell, I'm going to King Of The North" t-shirts aren't ready... yet.

How did you get together?

Andrew Higgs, vocals/guitar: We're old friends but King Of The North was a side-project started last year whilst we both lived in different states. We spent 2011 playing between our two homes, Melbourne and Adelaide. We are both living in Melbourne now; KOTN has become our main focus and we've been playing solidly here since Jan 2012.

Have you recorded anything or do you prefer to tool around in your bedroom?

We don't have a CD yet. We're due to start our first EP next week actually – it should be ready for release June/July. We do have a free demo currently available for download from our website, kingofthenorth.com.au.

Can you sum up your band's sound in four words?

How about high energy riff rock? That's not too AC/DC, is it?

If you could support any band in the world, who would it be and why?

I'm personally a big Aussie rock buff. I believe that Aussie music is as good as any music from anywhere. We had the privilege of being invited to support Cold Chisel at Festival Hall last Thursday. It was fucking amazing! That is definitely one box ticked, so the other would have to be AC/DC because like Chisel, they rock, are heroes of mine and something I grew up with.

If a higher power smites your house and you can only save one record from the fire, what would it be?

If I was only able to save one I'd probably die while trying to decide!

Do you have a lucky item of clothing you wear for gigs and what is it?

I have a black t-shirt I bought in Austin. It has the outline of the state of Texas with a Davy Crockett quote inside it that says, “You can go to hell, I'm going to Texas!” It's about eight years old now and has a hole in the right armpit. It was worn at Festival Hall last Thursday.

If you invited someone awesome round for dinner what would you cook?

Well “someone awesome” clearly implies that they eat meat so we'd have a barbie!

What's your favourite place to drink in Melbourne?

Anywhere that has live original bands playing instruments!

King Of The North play House Of Rock at the Palace on Saturday.
