Launch Pad: The Littlest Fox

History of your act from day one to now: I have been performing locally around the southern suburbs of Perth for several years just going by my name, Ashlea Reale. For the last 18 months myself, Jenny Gaunt (vocals, ukulele, keys) and Tony Surrell (drums, djembe) have been performing together under my name and have gained weekly residency at C.Y O'Connor Village Pub as well as performing many other regular gigs. During the recording process we were trying to think of a band name and a couple of months ago coined The Littlest Fox. Our act has been described as “…an earthy mix of compelling tunes, enchanting harmonies and catchy beats that are easy on the ear but resonate in the soul.”

Tell us about your release The album is called Paper Aeroplane. It is our first full-length album and has 12 tracks.

How did you go about recording it? The recording process took nine months in total, including mixing and mastering time. We spent a bit of time trying out different things to find the sound we were looking for. When we started recording we all went in together and played the tracks as a band and got a live recording. From this, we kept the drum tracks. We felt that recording the drum tracks live with the whole band gives it a more natural feel rather playing along to a click track. We then took turns going in to record the other parts like guitars, vocals, keyboard, ukulele, cello, trumpet and clarinet. We tried to keep the live and natural sound.

Tell us about your launch party: The launch is being held at the Railway Hotel in Fremantle. Doors open at 7.30pm and music starts at 8pm. Entry is $5 and we'll be supported by Aiden Varro and When Summer Ends.

What's next for your act? We are preparing to do some shows in England and Ireland in December this year.
