"I’d be pretty disappointed if I got seven tracks on an album, but it’s a lot bigger than what you’d expect an EP to be… So we went with mini-album…”

“All our heroes were drum’n’bass DJs; but we weren’t DJs, we were musicians.”

“There's that old saying that ever musician wants to be a comedian, and every comedian wants to be a rock star." Tom Ballard talks to Dave Drayton about bringing comedy to music festivals.

“That may be happening at this very festival. I can’t go into too much detail at this point, but I can say, ‘Yes, I certainly have [invited guest artists on stage] and that this is the festival’.

Birds Of Tokyo's Adam Spark tells us about some of his favourite records.

"I’ll also spend some time in the States working with producers. I think it will be good to have the big studio influence as well as the organic bedroom songwriting process."

“I think working with crazy people brings out a lot of great things because they just bring an insane energy that make me feel really secure!”

"I don’t have any expectations. I just want to keep writing music. I want to be more prolific – because for years there I just wasn’t doing anything at all."

"The eldest in the band is 24, so we might as well just smash it now while we’re young,” he smiles. “I don’t think we ever sat down and thought to ourselves that it wasn’t going to happen, you know?"

“From the early days, The Saints has been an ever-evolving thing, and I actually am flattered that people stay tuned for the next weird and wonderful deviation from its basic course.”

“There’s this whole illusion and people think that if a band have a song on triple j they’re pretty much a rock star and they own houses and jet skis, and they’ll never have to lift a finger again... But that’s a real myth."

"I hope that up-and-coming artists respect the roots of the culture and pioneers like Def Wish [Cast] and pay their respects to their elders, and appreciate hip hop as a culture and not just rap music. You know what I mean, all the elements, like we did growing up: graffiti, b-boying, DJing – respect all the other elements as well."

“I lived in Amsterdam for a little bit... and I was walking round the red light district and some other places and it was late at night and just the look in people’s eyes… There are so many stories."

"It’s great, it’s putting on an old t-shirt... There’s familiarity and comfort. It’s good, it’s nice."

“Oh, I actually had a dream about a certain celebrity. She came to me and she was wearing a yellow blouse, and I was in love with her in my dream. I woke up and um, yeah! That went in the song.”

Husky Gawenda tells us about some of his favourite things.

"I’m really digging Kendrick Lamar... He’s an amazing writer. Listening to his music it sounds like, Yo, this dude has got no rules – he’s not conforming to anything whatsoever."

I’m not a man hater, I love men, but I think it is this constant battle... it’s about being a human... things like this remind you that you can be treated poorly by the opposite sex

“We’ve just finished recording our new album. It’s still early days but it may have strings, brass, woodwind and may be a bit more poppier than our previous albums.”

“I love Australia!... I’ve very much loved seeing the transition in the culture from when we very first went down in the mid-‘70s, when it was like stepping into a time warp to the ‘30s or something, to now where it’s like going into the future – everything is so bohemian.”
