What kind of courses do you offer? Moored in the heart of South Melbourne, the Radio Training Institute is the only professional radio institute offered in Melbourne, Victoria, that distinctly offers courses that are hand crafted by successful radio professionals. For example, radio-diversified Steve Ahern (AMT) is the developer and convenor of our Advanced Radio course. Happily, we can guarantee that you’re in good hands.

The Radio Training Institute delivers students strong industry links to commercial stations, a highly competent teaching profile and up-to-the-minute course content. The courses we deliver range from the Advanced Radio course, Podcast course, Intro to Radio course (finishing July 2015), Voice-Over course, Creative Writing course, News Directing, and Sports Broadcasting course.

Do you offer practical on-site learning or more of a theoretical base? Our exceptional new Advanced Radio course, which resembles an Advanced Diploma, offers students the chance to experience in-house and vocational based learning whilst building professional rapports with our lecturers and the broader radio community. Throughout the Advanced Radio course it is common to see our guest lecturers, such as Joan Warner (Commercial Radio Australia CEO), Keegan Bakker (Fox FM Keegs show), Danny O’Grady (Hamish & Andy show Fox FM) and Steve Ahern (AMT), waxing lyrical about announcing, radio content and industry professionalism.

One of our key focuses is on up-to-the-minute radio knowledge and skills that are highly transferable to the industry. With industry placements being a core component of our Advanced Radio and Intro to Radio courses, you’ll leave here with more than foundational knowledge; you’ll have strong industry links and experience.

What makes you different to other universities? RTI differs from large-scale universities as we are a niche radio institution that is driven to connect students to the radio industry specifically. Our 12-student class sizes are conducive to the fast-paced learning environment that our lecturers facilitate. Essentially, this means we can be sure that our lecturers are establishing mentor relationships with students. In turn, this ensures the student is progressing, reaching their full potential and most importantly, enjoying their course.

The incredible personalities and talent that waltz through our doors are ever-diversifying and unique. Whether you’re an extrovert or introvert, you can guarantee we’ll find you the most desirable career in radio; whether it’s on-air announcing, voice-acting, program directing or audio production.

When and where is your next Info Day/Open Day? Our Open Nights often run twice per year. Please subscribe to our e-news and updates for all up-to-the-minute RTI information.
