BAR SIDE

The Fitzroy institution that is Bimbo Deluxe is going on 14 years this year.

They’re famous not only for their $4 pizzas, but for their impressive house-infused vodka, extensive beer and wine spread and the gigantic Kewpie doll out front. As well as their huge range of pizzas (we count more than 20 options!), Bimbo’s are serving up summer salads and hotdogs, too.

No doubt many locals have known many a night sitting on the rooftop, surrounded by Moroccan lanterns to enjoy Belgian chocolate dessert pizza and beer over summer. Take a seat in an armchair in the cool, dimly lit lounge with shellac walls, or be reminded of your grandma’s house when you venture into the Cafe Bimbo area, with its mismatched chairs, Formica tables and linoleum floors.

The beer selection includes old favourites from our own backyard as well as around the world: Two Birds Golden Ale, 2 Brothers, Estrella Dam, Brooklyn Lager, Weihenstephaner Hefeweissen, Mountain Goat, Colonial Brewing Co and Stone & Wood. As it heads into summer, take advantage of the house-infused vodkas; lychee infused vodka with ginger ale and a dash of fresh lime juice is sure to hit the spot.

FUN FACT

The design of Bimbo Deluxe is the most fun part. You may feel as if you’ve entered a sinister carnival. There are doors that lead to nowhere, a dome room, shoes stuck to the ceiling and little dolls scattered around.
