Labels Enter Bidding War For Chumpy Pullin’s Debut Album

What genre of music does Chumpy Pullin play?

Move over Vance Joy, Chumpy Pullin could well be the big guy on the Australian music scene before long if recent reports about interest from the country's finest record labels is anything to go by.

Currently in the Russian city of Sochi where he is to represent Australia at the Winter Olympic Games, Alex “Chumpy” Pullin has made headlines with the news that he would be carrying the Australian flag in the Opening Ceremony. But today SPA Confidential can report that a handful of Australian record labels are chasing his signature to release an album quickly after the Games are over.

With no one having heard any of Chumpy Pullin's music at this stage, the only question is what style of music the man will play. It is understood that the winner of the intense bidding war currently taking place will most likely steer him in their desired musical direction.

“We will definitely be trying to get him to play blues; Australia hasn't seen a guy with a blues name as good as Chumpy Pullin in a long, long time,” one A&R representative told SPA Confidential at a Sochi themed vodka party last night. “By the looks of some of the photos from Sochi, he might have some pretty hard-luck stories to write and sing about by the time he gets home too.”

A recent collaboration between Chumpy Pullin and Brisbane electro producer Sampology suggests a possible turn to the EDM style of music.

“Is Chumpy the new Flume? I guess we'll have to wait and see,” one music pundit said this afternoon.  “If I were his manager I'd be making sure he had a copy of Ableton on him in the Athlete's Village; everyone's talkin' Chumpy and they need to capitalise.”

But one not-particularly-well-respected music journalist says the only road to ensure Chumpy Pullin's success is as a punk rock artist.

“Can't you just see it, Parkway Drive's new single featuring Chumpy Pullin. He wouldn't have to be too heavy though, he could go out on the road with that D At Sea bloke. He's a good looking fella, could get a big female following. I probably wouldn't advise him to start a ska band though.”

Reports of Gary Garry Beers being in line to produce Chumpy Pullin's debut album are yet to be confirmed.
