Stone Roses Play Secret Show

For their first gig in 16 years, Manchester guitar pop legends The Stone Roses took to the 1100 capacity Warrington Parr Hall for a free, surprise show announced just hours before it took place. The band, who split acrimoniously back in 1996, reformed at the end of last year after years of speculation from fans and press (but denial from the band) it might happen.

Their first two shows were announced to take place on the band's home turf, in Manchester's Heaton Park on June 29 and 30. When 150,000 tickets for the two shows sold out in 14 minutes, they announced a third date at the same venue for July 1.

Punters were able to collect one wristband for the show per person, but in order to get one they'd have to bring a Stone Roses CD inlay cover, record sleeve, official band T-shirt or ticket for the band's Heaton Park performance with them, as reported by NME.

The band announced they had reformed for a World Tour, which has set speculation on potential Australian dates into overdrive, though we are at this stage no closer to knowing if or when the band will be making the trek down under.

Reports of the secret show from various online sources state that the band were comfortable in each other's company once more and relatively jovial throughout the show. Liam Gallagher was there, and he seemed to enjoy what he saw.

While it is being reported that the band have written three or four new songs, they played none of them at last night's show. The setlist was as follows:
