Aussie songstress Clare Bowditch has admitted that she was afraid of appearing on Channel Ten's hit drama Offspring, claiming it was a massive step out of her comfort zone.

Bowditch, who plays musician home wrecker Rosanna on the show, says she was daunted by the talent in the cast, taking tips where she could.

“I'm really pleased I did it. But I was very scared and it was very challenging. Because you're talking about John Waters and Norman Gunston and Deborah Mailman and Asher Keddie, not just Eddie [Perfect] and Kat [Stewart, who plays Mick's wife Billie], these amazingly talented, craftful actors. So yeah, I did have a mild panic when I realised they were serious. Eddie was very kind. He gave me lots of good coaching in the make-up mirror each morning.”

Bowditch understands that diversifying her experience was essential to creating successful and accessible music.

“But before I didn't know how to make a consistent living as an artist and that was really frustrating and heartbreaking. I knew that, as a band, we were making unusual, good music. I knew that it deserved a chance. My frustration was, 'How do you let people know about it?'”

Her new album The Winter I Chose Happiness was released last week, and already has achieved her first Top Forty hit with You Make Me Happy, a song performed with Eddie Perfect on the show.
