Vivid Sydney Locks 'In Conversation With Amy Poehler' In Exclusive Event

Vivid Sydney has locked in an exclusive event that is sure to impress film and comedy fans alike by scoring “In Conversation with” the one and only Amy Poehler, which will be moderated by Double J’s Zan Rowe.

The Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning actress—best known for her roles in Parks And Recreation, Saturday Night Live, Mean Girls and Sisters—will appear as part of a Vivid Ideas event held at the Joan Sutherland Theatre, Sydney Opera House from 7 pm on Monday, 27 May.

In addition to her roles as an actress, Poehler has made a career as a writer, director, producer, and bestselling author. She arrives in Australia for a conversation, and the promotion of Disney and Pixar’s Inside Out 2.

Poehler is visiting Sydney for the first time since 2015, with her “In Conversation with” preceded by a special 30-minute showing of Inside Out 2, a few weeks out from the film’s Australian release.

“I’m really looking forward to taking part in Vivid Sydney this year, a place that welcomes Joy [Poehler’s Inside Out character] in every way,” Poehler commented in a press release. “I can’t wait to share a little of Inside Out 2: a movie that lets Joy and Sadness, Anxiety and Envy—all try to work together in hilarious and touching ways.”

Vivid Sydney Festival Director Gill Minervini added that Poehler is “comedy royalty” and called her “In Conversation with” event one that’s “not-to-be-missed.”

“Amy’s new film Inside Out 2 ties in perfectly with the theme of this year’s festival, Humanity, with an accessible take on how the human mind makes decisions and processes emotions,” Minervini said, “Allowing audiences to have an insight to how one of the world’s great writers and performers operates is sure to be a great thrill. I encourage everyone to get their tickets as soon as they can for this not-to-be-missed event.”

The 2024 edition of Vivid will run for a mammoth 23 nights, kicking off on Friday, 24 May, and wrapping up on Saturday, 15 June. This year’s program was curated to spotlight “the essence of humanity,” with a press release noting that its team is working with the ethos of showing “how creativity fuels our interconnected world.”

In terms of music, this year’s Vivid has locked in the reunited The Middle East as well as performances by Explosions In The Sky, Sky Ferreira, Underworld, Thelma Plum, Mallrat, Yves Tumor, No Fixed Address, Teenage Joans and many more.
